Heat Advisory And Ways To Prevent Heat Related Illness

With temperatures expected to be in the high 90s and above over the next few days, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) along with the Plainfield Division of Health urges residents to take steps to avoid heat exhaustion and or heat stroke. Heat stroke is a life-threatening condition and heat exhaustion can also require hospital care. When the weather turns extremely hot and humid, it’s vital to drink plenty of fluids, spend time in cool places and reduce or reschedule any physical activity. And remember to check on elderly family members and neighbors to make sure they are safe.

Medicare Update:

Extra Help with Prescription Drug Costs for Medicare Beneficiaries

More Medicare beneficiaries will soon qualify for help paying for their prescription drugs. People on Medicare may be eligible to pay no more than $2.50 for generic drugs and $6.30 for each brand name drug thanks to changes to Medicare's Low-Income Subsidy Program (also called "Extra Help") that take effect this year. Changes in the law will make it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to qualify for "Extra Help" by changing the way income and assets are counted in 2010. The Social Security Administration will no longer count life insurance policies as a resource. Also, help received from family and friends to pay for household expenses like food, mortgage, rent and utilities will no longer count as income.

Thank You!

Welcome to the official web site for Plainfield, New Jersey.

On behalf of the City of Plainfield, I greet you with the passion and enthusiasm that hopefully you share for our Queen City, Plainfield, New Jersey.

Plainfield has a very diverse, rich history, and our future is excitingly boundless. Please visit our downloads page which will provide you with some vital information about our city. The events page will provide you with activities that are happening in our city.

This is a difficult time for everyone in our country. Hard financial times and rising costs are forcing everyone, including the City of Plainfield, to re-examine their priorities. My main goal is to ensure a balanced and stable budget, with minimal or no impact on City services and ensuring that the City will be in a greater financial position when the economy returns to normal.

The City of Plainfield will be hosting a town hall meeting to educate and inform our residents about the escalating gang violence in our city and across the country. This town hall meeting will give residents an opportunity to hear the views of our elected officials and understand what we are doing as a community to stem the violence. Our goal is to ensure that each resident is a productive member of our community.
