Plainfield NJ is a suburban treasure! The City’s rich history and energy has attracted people from many different lifestyles and backgrounds; many different people from across the nation and around the world. Plainfield offers the convenience and accessibility of urban living with a friendly, small town feel. The City’s affordable properties draw new residents from all walks of life: urban pioneers who enjoy living in Plainfield's beautiful, historic homes; transplants who visit and decide to stay, and business owners seeking a real sense of community.

The City of Plainfield is home to ten historic districts, seven of which are listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Our Historic Preservation Commission has identified additional potential historic districts around the City. Most of our residents live in private homes; the rest are housed in condominium, cooperative, two-family or apartment buildings - a balance which has been purposely maintained. Plainfield’s remarkable natural landscape includes varied rolling landscapes, tree-lined streets, and its two major parks - enhance its many attractive neighborhoods.
