Plainfield Action Services (PAS) is a Municipal Community Action Agency under the City of Plainfield’s Department of Administration and Finance, Health and Social Services Division of Community Relations and Social Services. The mission of PAS is to provide services to Plainfield’s low-income families and individuals regardless of ethnicity, religion or race through programs, direct monetary assistance (when available), information and referrals.
HOURS OF OPERATION 9:00 AM— 5:00 PM
Monday through Friday Client Services are provided from 9:30 AM — 4:30 PM.
Plainfield Action Services Programs
HOUSING/ TENANT RIGHTS
PAS provides monetary assistance, when funds are available to eligible low-income residents for housing, eviction prevention or Court Summons.
Referrals to legal services for tenant/landlord issues are available at no cost. Printed landlord/tenant materials are also available at no cost, and staff is available to discuss tenant/landlord issues with groups and individuals.
Assistance with summer cooling and winter heating is available through PAS by direct monetary grants (when funds are available). Staff is available to assist with the completion of applicable program applications
Staff will also make telephone inquiries to public utility providers for low-income residents if warranted. Under some conditions assistance with telephone services may be offered.
Eligible low-income residents with Doctor prescription(s) from medicine or medical items may be assisted at PAS when funds are available.
This service has a limit of $50.00 per family or individual. For eligibility you must:
- Be a Plainfield resident
- Be uninsured or under insured
- Provide source of income
- Provide proof of household members
- Provide a Social security card for each household member.
PAS makes emergency referrals on the following days each week at 9:00 AM:
- Be a Plainfield resident
- Provide proof of each household member:
- School ID
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- Provide proof of current hardship:
- Warrant of Removal, Etc.
The PAS Garden Club provides free seeds during the garden season. PAS requests that when vegetables are harvested a donation is made to PAS clients that are unable to have a garden.
Consumer complaints can be filed at PAS each work day. There are three (3) State certified Consumer Affairs recruiters assisting with this process.
For most services the following information is required:
- Proof/source of income
- Proof of residence
- Proof of household members
- Social security card for each household member
- Proof of Citizenship/Green Card
SPECIAL PROGRAMS & PROJECTS
“COFFEE FOR CLIENTS”
Offers free Coffee on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday to PAS clients from January through April each year.
MAYOR’S TASK FORCE ON YOUTH
Offers summer youth employment opportunities to residents, ages 14-21. Registration begins in May.
COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH
Is acknowledged and celebrated each May with information workshops and a special recognition day during the last week of May.
BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Are provided each September when available. Interested clients are advised to check with PAS the last week of August.
PAS provides Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas food items and gifts to low-income residents with priority selections given to the following:
- Senior Citizens
- Families with Children under the age of 13
- Single Individuals
Employment opportunities are posted on a bulletin board maintained by PAS.
